We make the day's available Strain visible without requiring a full trip through the app. Foleil's Lock Screen widget pairs the figure with a simple bar, and shows the suggested range when the necessary context supports one. Tapping takes you to Today for the fuller picture.

The advantage is a quick orientation point. You can glance, then choose whether to open the detail. A widget is not a live physiological sensor or a command to reach a number, and a missing figure stays missing instead of looking like a day with zero activity.

How it works

Add Foleil's rectangular Strain widget to a supported iPhone Lock Screen. It shows a whole Strain value and bar when available, or a dash when there is no suitable value; optional range marks appear only with a valid suggested range. The widget opens Today and follows the device's privacy-sensitive display and widget-update behaviour.

Why it matters

A glanceable figure is useful only when its meaning is clear. A label separates Strain from a generic progress bar, and a dash avoids pretending that unavailable information is a measured zero. The range, when present, is a suggestion based on available context rather than an instruction to complete extra exercise.

Apple's widget guidance, accessed 19 October 2026, describes widgets as glanceable presentations of useful information. That supports this interaction pattern. It does not prove that a widget refreshes continuously, that it shows every new Health sample immediately or that a displayed score measures every kind of effort.

Compared with other health and fitness tools

Gentler Streak documents a visual suggested activity range in its Activity Path explanation, accessed 19 October 2026. A visual range is already an established way to orient a day. Foleil's reason to choose this widget is direct access to our own Strain context and Today workflow, where the figure sits near sessions, meals and recovery. We make no claim that another app lacks a Lock Screen widget or that Foleil's suggested range is more accurate.

The evidence and a practical example

Imagine glancing at the phone before a scheduled evening session. If Strain and a range are available, the widget lets you orient yourself and open Today to read the detail. If Recovery is unavailable or suggestions are paused, range marks can be absent. That absence is meaningful; it does not silently mean the suggested range is zero.

The evidence is the displayed value, its label, the optional marks and the destination when tapped. Updates follow the operating system's widget behaviour, so this is not a second-by-second monitor. Lock Screen visibility also deserves your review: a compact health figure is still personal information, even when the widget contains fewer words than a full report.

Frequently asked questions

Does a dash mean no activity?

No. A dash means no suitable Strain value is available for the widget. It must not be read as a measured zero.

Why are range marks sometimes absent?

A valid suggested range needs suitable current context. Paused suggestions or missing Recovery can leave the range absent.

Does the widget refresh continuously?

No continuous-refresh promise is made. Widget updates follow iOS behaviour; open Today when you want the fuller available context.
