Foleil keeps a completed sleep record useful without pretending it belongs to a newer night. Open the latest sleep tile to inspect the actual night and its date, then return to the wider recovery picture. The advantage is context you can trust at a glance: an older available measurement stays an older measurement, rather than becoming a fresh result because the calendar changed.
How it works
The latest-sleep view selects a main sleep that has finished by the current time. It displays the available duration and opens that night's detail, with access to the wider nights list. Where there is sufficient earlier evidence, the view can place the night against your usual pattern. With no available night, it uses an empty state rather than inventing sleep.
Why it matters
The CDC overview of sleep, reviewed 19 October 2026, discusses sleep quantity and quality. A dated record gives those subjects a particular reference point: this is the night the app is describing. Foleil's contribution is the presentation and selection of available evidence, not an independent sleep diagnosis. A completed record also does not establish that the sensor captured every awakening or every part of the night.
Compared with other approaches
Oura's Readiness contributors, reviewed 19 October 2026, include sleep and longer-term observations. Gentler Streak also documents sleep and wellbeing views. Foleil's advantage here is the dated route from the latest completed night into the same routine as meals, training and self-reported check-ins. It does not claim equivalent sensor measurements or that competing apps universally misdate sleep.
The evidence
A missing new night and a poor new night are different states. Foleil does not need a new low value to explain missing evidence. It can retain the latest completed record and keep its temporal meaning visible. A personal usual also needs enough earlier nights; without that evidence, a comparison should not be manufactured. This keeps the screen useful for reviewing what is available while avoiding a false impression that every displayed figure was measured this morning.
Put it into your day
If you open Foleil after a night without your usual sleep sensor, inspect the date before interpreting the duration. Open the tile to confirm which night it describes. Check Apple Health availability and permissions if the expected record is missing, then add your own check-in separately if you want to record how you feel today. Do not treat yesterday's recorded sleep as today's experience. When a new completed record becomes available, revisit the detail and compare like with like. The practical benefit is a clear place to begin a morning review, even when data arrive late or the latest night has not been recorded.
Frequently asked questions
Does an older night become today’s result?
No. The latest available completed sleep retains its actual temporal context. Check its date before interpreting it.
Does missing sleep mean zero sleep?
No. No available record is different from a measured duration of zero.
Can I compare with my usual sleep immediately?
A meaningful usual needs sufficient earlier evidence. Without that history, Foleil does not invent the comparison.
What if a sensor did not record last night?
Check the date of the available completed night and the source coverage. You can record how you feel separately without treating an older measurement as a new one.
